Lhasa Introduces Investment Exceeding 400 Million YuanIt is learned from Lhasa business symposium that so far more than 50 domestic and overseas enterprises have come to Lhasa for business talks and investment, over 30 of them have reached primary intention for cooperation, with Lhasa, with the total investment exceeding 400 million yuan.As source says, during the symposium, many famous domestic and overseas enterprises, including Japanese SEIKO, Panasonic, Jiangsu Huaxi (Group) Corporation and Chengdu Railway Express, signed formal cooperation agreements with related units of Lhasa. Yin Zhengmin, director of Lhasa Economic & Trade Commission, said that the policy on the development of west China has attracted Chinese and foreign enterprises to Tibet. Early this year, Lhasa offered 36 key projects of larger scale than previous ones. In the past six years, nearly 200 enterprises have invested in Lhasa with the total value amounting to around 1.3 billion yuan. Tibet's investment environment is getting better and better. Last year, the Tibet Autonomous Region and Lhasa adopted in succession preferential policies and auxiliary measures, giving due consideration to investors in the aspects of taxation, land, credit and the introduction of talents. In addition, the number of tourists to Lhasa has been growing on an annual basis. In the four years from 1996 to 1999, Lhasa received a total of 325,000 Chinese and foreign tourists. This year, the number will hit 250,000, thereby providing great business opportunities for the market. Lhasa is marching toward modernization day by day, this has strengthened the confidence of domestic and overseas enterprises to invest in Lhasa. Wu Xiede, general manager of Jiangsu Huaxi (Group) Corporation, said that at first, he thought the natural conditions in plateau area were harsh and the local economy was underdeveloped. However, after his arrival in Tibet, he found that Lhasa is full of shady trees and rich in commodities, making no difference between it and inland cities.
