China Did Not Import Plasma

China has an adequate supply of plasma for clinic use and does not need to import any plasma from foreign countries, Thursday's Beijing Youth Daily cited an official source as saying.

A newspaper recently reported that plasma polluted by HIV and hepatitis virus had been transferred from an African country to a number of countries in the past 20 years, including China.

"This is groundless," the daily cited an official from the State Exit-Entry Quarantine Administration as saying, "we have the world's advanced equipment and any plasma polluted by HIV will absolutely be checked out."

According to the newspaper, the administration is now investigating the rumor and will make a formal statement if necessary.
