East China Province Sets Up First Geology Park

East China's Fujian Province recently set up its first geological park, focusing on seashore volcano landscape and ancient forest ruins with over 10,000 years of history.

The park is located in Zhangpu County of Zhangzhou, where a 22 million-year-old seabed crater, believed to be the only one of its kind in the world, is still well preserved.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization has decided to choose the first group of the world's best geological parks starting from the year 2003, and China will do a similar thing in 2002.

"With rich geological landscapes, we are confident we will be able to compete with other parks after two or three years of effort," a park manager said.
