Nine Killed by Rainstorm in Guangdong Province

A recent rainstorm has killed nine people in eastern Guangdong Province in south China, according to the latest government bulletin.

The rainstorm also caused economic losses of 606 million yuan (some 75 million US dollars), the bulletin said.

As a result of typhoon No. 10, which just passed recently, the rainstorm hit more than 800,000 residents from 133 towns and townships of 10 counties in east Guangdong, and destroyed more than 4,300 houses.

In the most badly affected Meizhou area, the rainstorm claimed seven lives and destroyed 3,500 houses and caused a total of 570 million yuan (70 million US dollars) of economic loss.

So far, the provincial government has sent disaster clean-up crews to the disaster-hit areas and allocated money to help the victims.
