Shanghai Prepares for Typhoon Prapiroon
Both the urban and rural areas of Shanghai were mobilized Wednesday to keep a close eye on the movement of typhoon Prapiroon.
Sources from the local meteorological station said that the Prapiroon is located in the sea area, about 280 kilometers southeast of Shanghai with a strong gale in its center.
The typhoon is moving northwesterly at a speed of 24 km per hour. It is expected to enter the Yellow Sea area around midnight Wednesday. Weather forecasts say heavy rainstorms will hit Shanghai on Wednesday night and Thursday.
A meteorologist believes that this will be the worst tropical storm this year. The water level at Huangpu and Suzhou rivers will rise to the second highest point in history early Thursday morning. Some residents on Chongming Island has been organized for evacuation.
