East China City Lures Chinese Students Abroad

Hefei, capital of east China's Anhui Province, has just issued a series of regulations to create a sound environment for the home-coming of Chinese students studying abroad.

The regulations encourage Chinese students studying in foreign countries to come back and establish high-tech enterprises and research institutes.

These students are also invited to engage in academic exchanges and scientific and technological cooperation in Hefei.

Preferential policies for the students, including simplifying exit and entry procedures and more investment services, are stipulated in the regulations.

Nationwide China hopes to attract some 10,000 of these students back home annually during the period of 2001-2005.

The government is encouraging banks, insurance companies, securities firms and large state-owned enterprises to employ these students.
