Chinese Robot Soccer Team Competes in RoboCup

A Chinese soccer team has finally made it to the World Cup, but unfortunately, the players are not human players, they're robots. Chinese Science and Technology University has sent a team of robot soccer players to compete in the 4th RoboCup World Championship in Melbourne, Australia on August 29.

Chinese Science and Technology University's Blue Eagle robot soccer team is the first Chinese robot soccer team to enter a RoboCup tournament. The Blue Eagle team was put in group six with the German Revolving Head team, which ranked second in this year's European Robot Soccer Match. The German Revolving Head team tied for fifth in last year's RoboCup with a Japanese team. To prepare for RoboCup, the Artificial Intelligence Center at the Chinese Science and Technology University has been working on a more advanced software since March.

RoBoCup is the largest and most advanced robot soccer match in the world. The 4th RoboCup opened last Friday and will conclude September 3. 154 robot teams from 30 countries and regions are participating in the competition.
