Over 300 people gathered Wednesday at the Great Hall of the People to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Zhang Wentian, an outstanding leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Chinese President Jiang Zemin, who also serves as the General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, attended the memorial meeting.

The meeting was presided over by Vice President Hu Jintao, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission.

Born in 1900 and died in 1976, Zhang Wentian had taken several important posts in the Party.
