China Expects to Produce 90 Films This Year

China will produce around 90 films this year, a little less than last year. This information was disclosed by Liu Jianzhong, bureau chief of the Film Administration under the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television.

Liu said that China's movie shooting is becoming more and more vigorous as themes and styles vary from one film to another. More scientific technology has been adopted in producing movies. Young and middle-aged directors are also playing a key role in developing China's film industry.

Xie Jin, a renowned Chinese film director, said that he was very impressed by the striking characteristics featured in films directed by fifth-generation directors.

Home-made movies have been challenged by foreign rivals since Chinese audiences have complained that some of the films were shot in a rough and slipshod way and that plots were not attractive enough.

As China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO) approaches, Chinese film makers feel more pressure to follow in the footsteps of film directors that have made films that won "Bravo" from both home and overseas audiences over the past few years.
