China to Hold First Online Debate Contest

China's first online debate contest is scheduled for the 1st to the 8th of November in Shanghai.

The contest, to be co-sponsored by the Shanghai Telecommunications Company, the Shanghai Information Industry Co.,Ltd., and several other organizations, will focus on the development of the Internet in China.

Topics to be discussed include "Internet Economy and Venture capital", "Internet and Traditional Media", "Online Love Affairs" and "Long-Distance and Traditional Education".

Contest organizers said professionals with major Chinese websites will take part in the debate.

A special website, bianlun.online.sh.cn., was launched on Monday for the event. All debates will be telecast live through the Web.

There are now more than 16 million Internet users in China.
