People Responsible for Boat Accident to Be Tried
The four people allegedly responsible for the boat accident which killed about 130 people on June 22 on the Yangtze River, near Hejiang in southwest China's Sichuan Province, will be tried on September 15.
Liu Shaoan, director of Hejiang County Public Security Bureau said that investigations show that the boat accident is a man-made disaster. The four people responsible for the accident, including the ship's owner Liang Yingjin, captain Zhou Shoujin, Liang Rubing, who was responsible for the ship's safety, and the conductor, Shi Ping, have been arrested.
The four were each charged with crimes of illegally enrolling crewmen and ignoring the management of the ship's safety, illegally navigating the ship in poor weather conditions, and the overloading of passengers onto the ship.
The Procuratorate of Hejiang County held that the four people have violated the Regulations on the Management over Navigation Safety on Inland Rivers.
Chen Lisheng, chief justice of the Court of Hejiang County, said that his court heard the case on August 24 and will conduct a public trial on the four arrested on September 15.
Public trials on others responsible for the accident will be carried out soon.
