Tropical Storm Sweeps Closer to Zhejiang

A tropical storm whirled close to east China's Zhejiang Province Tuesday, promoting local authorities to move people to safer areas and prepare to make sure possible losses are at a minimum.

Sources from the Zhejiang Provincial Meteorological Station said that the Prapiroon developed into a tropical storm at 8 p.m. Monday night and was centered in the sea area 23.3 degrees north latitude and 125.6 degrees east longitude or some 800 kilometers southeast of Wenzhou City.

The sources said the tropical storm, with a whole gale near its center, is expected to enter the East China Sea Tuesday afternoon and land in central and northern coastal Zhejiang Wednesday evening.

Starting Tuesday, fresh gale and whole gale winds are expected to lash Zhejiang's sea areas, and from Tuesday evening to Wednesday, rainstorms and torrential rains are expected in the province's coastal areas.

Local concerned departments have been warned to keep on alert and make preparations against possible floods, landslides and other disasters.
