Tide-Watching Festival To Be Held in Zhejiang

The International Tide-Watching Festival on the Qiantang River will be held in Haining, east China 's Zhejiang Province, from September 13 to 17.

During the five-day event, various performances and activities, including kite-flying shows, art fairs and lantern shows will be held.

The festival has been held annually since 1994 and has attracted millions of tourists to Haining on the northern bank of the river, and Xiaoshan on the southern bank.

The tide of the Qiantang River near Haining is one of China's most amazing phenomenons. Scientists say that the bell-shaped mouth of the Qiantang River near the city helps form the awesome sight called the "Haining Tide," which has a crest as high as 3.5 meters.
