Chinese Films In the World MarketChina will hold annual film exhibitions in American cities to show at least six award-winning Chinese films, according to an official with the state film bureau.Liu Jianzhong, director general of the China Bureau of Radio and Television also expressed his wishes during the Fifth Changchun Film Festival here to increase film exchanges with the international film circles. Chinese films are becoming more and more popular among foreign audiences as well as professional film producers in recent years. Some of the films have won international prizes in Canada, Spain, Greece and Holland. China held film exhibitions in the United States, Germany and six other countries and regions in 1999. Over 150 selected Chinese films have taken 15 grand prizes from some 58 international film festivals. Statistics show that there were 38 films exported to foreign countries last year, with sales value totaling over six million yuan. American movies are the dominant choices of most Chinese cinemas in recent years. China has a bright market prospect and an excellent environment for film development, said Wen Yuxu, chief inspector of Asian Region with the Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp. As China is seeking chances for film exchanges and speeding up its film exportation, overseas audiences will have more opportunities to get to know more about China. |
