Free Chinese Traditional Concert to Be Given in Washington D.C.

A free Chinese traditional concert will be given by the China National Traditional Orchestra at the Kennedy Center Sunday evening.

More than 10 traditional Chinese musical pieces are to be presented at the concert, including the Moonlit Spring River and Flowers, Butterfly Lovers and Ali Boy. America the Beautiful and other Western musical pieces will also be given by Chinese artists.

It will be the second such kind of performance held in Washington, D.C. More than 1,000 American people and overseas Chinese watched a Chinese traditional concert Saturday night.

After the Saturday concert, Michael and Angella Ryan, an old American couple said they were deeply moved by "the wonderful concert" and called Chinese musicians "all talents."

"Music is a universal language. I believe I understand every musical piece tonight, and I also believe music can help deepen the understanding of the Americans and the Chinese." said Angella Ryan.

The two concerts are part of the 25-day Chinese Culture Exchange Tour in the United States, co-sponsored by the Information Office of the Chinese State Council and Ministry of Culture.

The 70-strong group will travel to Des Moines, Iowa on Monday, starting its tour in four mid state capitals including Chicago, Illinois, St. Louis, Missouri and Indianapolis, Indiana.

Founded in 1960, the China National Traditional Orchestra is the largest and the best traditional orchestra in China. And it has traveled far and wide across China and as well as to many countries such as Britain, France, Denmark and Russia.
