Museum Opens in China's Summer PalaceForty thousand valuable relics have been transferred from a 100-year-old storehouse to a modern new museum in Beijing's Summer Palace.The new, two-story museum, covering 5,600- square- meters, was constructed in the famous imperial garden to better protect the relics. Installed with advanced air-conditioners, fireproof equipment and anti-theft facilities, the new museum stands in stark contrast to the relics' old home, which had been weakened by rain and termites. The construction of the museum cost 60 million yuan or about 7.5 million U.S. dollars. The Summer Palace contains thousands of rare relics, including ancient bronze and jade vessels, wooden and bamboo items, musical instruments, paintings, sculptures and books. |
