Chinese, PNG FMs Discuss RelationsChina and Papua New Guinea (PNG) have achieved remarkable outcomes in their coopertion in the areas of politics, economy and culture in recent years, and such cooperation has maintained a good development momentum."This is in the long-term and fundamental interests of the peoples of the two countries," Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan said today in a meeting with John Kaputin, foreign minister of Papua New Guinea. Tang said that China is ready to join hands with Papua New Guinea to establish a smooth and stable bilateral relationship in the 21st century. He also briefed Kaputin on the Chinese government's stance on the Taiwan issue, and appreciated the Papua New Guinean government's observance of the one-China policy. Kaputin said that bilateral relations have been developing smoothly, and the Papua New Guinean government has made efforts to advance friendship and cooperation with China, and will continue to pursue the one-China policy. He also thanked the Chinese government for its support for Papua New Guinea's economic restructuring. The two foreign ministers also discussed regional and international issues of common concern.
