Chinese Vice-Premier Meets Japanese FM

Chinese Vice Premier Qian Qichen met with Japanese Foreign Minister Yohei Kono Tuesday and reaffirmed China's friendly policy towards Japan.

Qian said the friendly cooperative partnership between China and Japan is witnessing steady progress, and consultations should be carried out to solve the problems in bilateral ties.

Kono agreed with Qian, saying the present relationship between the two countries remains sound. He also expressed gladness over the success of his talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan yesterday.

Qian talked about the present Sino-US and Sino-Russian relations, the situation at the Korean Peninsula, and relations across the Taiwan Straits.

Kono said the Japanese government would continue sticking to the One-China Policy and principle in handling the Taiwan issue as set forth in the Japan-China Joint Declaration.
