Chinese Vice-President Meets Tunisian Defense Minister

Chinese Vice-President Meets Tunisian Defense Minister
Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao said Tuesday that China highly values its traditional friendship with Tunisia, and places great importance on developing relations of friendly cooperation with Tunisia and other African nations.

Hu, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remark in a meeting with Tunisian Defense Minister Mohamed Jegham.

China and Tunisia, as well as their armed forces, have enjoyed good relations, and the two sides' cooperation in a variety of areas has kept expanding, Hu said.

China appreciates Tunisia's adherence to the one-China policy and its stance of not having official relations with Taiwan, he said.

China is willing to join efforts with Tunisia in further developing the existing good relations of cooperation between the two countries and their armed forces, he said.

Jegham spoke highly of Tunisia-China relations, and said that exchanges of visits between high-ranking government officials of the two countries promoted the development of bilateral relations.

He said that Tunisia gives priority to developing relations with China, adding that the Tunisian armed forces hope to further promote friendship and cooperation with their Chinese People's Liberation Army.
