Senior CPC Official Meets Japanese FM

Zeng Qinghong, an alternate member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met Tuesday with Japanese Foreign Minister Yohei Kono.

Zeng, also a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Organization Department of CPC Central Committee, said the CPC and the Chinese government have worked for the growth of Sino-Japanese relations. China and Japan, as close neighbors, should increase exchanges, especially between young statesmen of the two countries.

He said he hopes that the two countries will honor the principles of the three Sino-Japanese political documents, and solve problems on the basis of seeking common ground and pushing aside difference, so as to further promote the development of bilateral relations.

Kono said the Japanese government and a vast majority of the Japanese people have stood for developing Sino-Japanese friendly relations since the normalization of their relations in 1972, adding that the Japanese people have been inspired by remarks made by Chinese President Jiang Zemin in a meeting with a large Japanese delegation in May this year.

He said although there are some problems in bilateral relations, the two countries could properly solve such problems through dialog and consultation. Japan and China should promote mutual understanding and trust.
