Another 747 Emergency Landing

The crew of a US Northwest Airlines jetliner carrying 380 people made an emergency landing at Tokyo's airport after reporting engine trouble over the Pacific Ocean, airport officials said.

The pilot of the Boeing 747 switched off the troubled No. 1 engine and landed safely at Narita airport, outside Tokyo, late Monday the airport said.

The jet has two engines on each wing, and the malfunctioning engine was at the far end of the left wing.

None of the 380 passengers or crew aboard Flight NW26 was injured, Kyodo News agency said.

The plane was en route from Osaka to Los Angeles, Kyodo said.
