China Pondering Border Administration Law

The Chinese legislature is considering to make law on land borders. At a plenary session of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) last Friday, the lawmakers heard a report by Tong Fu, a vice-chairman of the NPC Foreign Affairs Committee.

During a discussion, Zou Jiahua, a vice-chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, said the absence of a border law in the People's Republic of China is not compatible with the country's strategy of governing by law and its international status.

Such a law involves many departments responsible for different matters as well as local governments in the border areas, he noted.

He asked the NPC Foreign Affairs Committee to further seek comments from different central departments and local governments concerned.
