Macao Delegation to Promote Tourism in SingaporeA 90-member tourism delegation left Macao Monday for Singapore to promote there the tourism industry of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China.Headed by Fernando Chui Sai On, secretary for social and cultural affairs of the Macao SAR government, the delegation includes tourism officials and business people in the tourism sector, who will meet their Singaporean counterparts for better cooperation in the future. Tourism officials of Macao will sign a memorandum of understanding with the Singapore Airlines which is expected to fly more passengers from Southeast Asia to Macao. At present, Macao's major sources of tourists are Hong Kong, Taiwan and the inland areas of China. In addition, a Macao Tourism Promotion Week will be launched in Singapore Tuesday. Macao SAR Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah, who will pay an official visit to Singapore from August 29 to September 1, will attend the opening ceremony. The tourism week is aimed at publicizing Macao's delicacies, tourist sites and tourism facilities. Last year, Macao received more than 7.4 million tourists and the number was about 17 times that of the local population. According to local tourism officials, the target for this year has been set at 8 million.
