South China's Hainan Province has been concentrating its efforts on building 100 new towns on the island.
According to local sources, the plan, which was introduced last year, is designed to urbanize the whole island. The provincial government has published detailed steps to execute the plan in two to three years.
The designs for building 75 of the towns have been finished so far, while the designs for the 25 other towns are still being carried out and will be completed within the year.
Hainan, now with a population of over 7.43 million, is also China's youngest special economic zone, founded in April 1988.
