US Agricultural Products Pour Into Shanghai
Import of US agricultural products in the top business center of China has kept soaring this year, with fresh and dry fruits enjoying the biggest growth.
Statistics from the local customs indicate that in the first seven months, the import of fresh and dry fruits and nuts hit 720 tons, up 289 times over the same period last year.
By the end of July, the import of edible oil-bearing seeds reached 95,934 tons, up 68.2 percent, ranking first in volume, followed by frozen poultry meat, whose imports stood at 8,342 tons, up 219.7 percent.
The import of milk and cream went up 80.5 percent to 5,799 tons, ranking third in volume. The import of feather and plume products also witnessed a jump of 56.6 times to 193 tons.
A local customs official attributed the surge mainly to the signing of WTO entry agreement between China and US and the improved service by Chinese quarantine departments on US agricultural products.
