2000 Lanzhou Trade and Investment Fair Opens

'2000 China Lanzhou Investment and Trade Fair Held in Lanzhou
The 2000 China Lanzhou Investment and Trade Fair opened in Lanzhou Saturday.

More than 7,000 business people from 53 countries, including the United States, Japan and France, gathered at the fair in the capital city of northwest China's Gansu Province.

The participants will conduct negotiations in such sectors as program investment, transaction of technological results, tourism promotion programs, trade cooperation and commodity exhibition over fair, a local source said.

Also hosted during the fair are several seminars on western area's development and small and media-sized enterprises.

The province has carried out a series of favorable policies to attract investment worldwide and will provide 670 high-tech cooperation projects for domestic and overseas business people during the fair.

The event was sponsored by the State Administration of Machinery Industry, the State Administration of Internal Trade, the Tianjin municipal government and the Gansu provincial government.

Lanzhou's trade fair has been held annually since 1992 and its influence in northwest China has grown enormously.

Gansu expects the fair to open a window for economic links with the overseas businesses, authorities said.
