Contemporary Chinese-English Dictionary Published

The Contemporary Chinese-English Dictionary was issued Saturday in Wuhan by China's prestigious Commercial Press in the capital of central Hubei Province.

The dictionary contains a vocabulary of 120,000, including 95, 000 lexical items and 25,000 science and technology terms.

It collects many new words that have only become popular in recent years as well as dialects and foreign words that have come into Putonghua (standard Chinese).

It is also practical as it gives many examples under each word to guide readers to better understand its meaning and the differences when the word is used in different situations.

The Commercial Press published New China's first Chinese-English dictionary 22 years ago.

The new dictionary took three generations of Chinese experts of English 10 years to compile.
