DPRK to Further Promote Friendship with China

Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), said Thursday his country would continue to strengthen friendly cooperation with China.

During a meeting with Ye Xuanping, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Kim said Ye's current visit would promote bilateral ties between the DPRK and China, which enjoy a traditional friendship.

He said he believed that the unification of the Korean Peninsula will eventually be realized since the North and South are seriously implementing the North-South Joint Declaration, signed on June 15 at the inter-Korea summit.

Speaking on the same occasion, Ye said the long-time friendship between China and the DPRK, which has been forged and developed during the past decades, is vital to peace and stability on the Peninsula and in the whole region.

He said the historic inter-Korea summit, promoting mutual understanding and trust between North and South, has opened a new era for the peaceful unification of the Korean Peninsula.
