Severe Drought Hit Inner Mongolia

The severe drought in north China's Inner Mongolia region is continuing, affecting the livelihoods of some five million people, China Radio International reported on August 24.

Local sources say the drought has continued for over a year - or nearly four hundred days - in some cities and regions.

The drought's resulted in a sharp drop in grain output.

Two thirds of the region's total planting area, has been affected by the disaster.

More than six hundred thousand animals have died due to the lack of grass, and forty million are still in bad condition.

The local government has sent three and a half million people to help combat the disaster, drilling more wells and buying grain from nearby provinces.
