Typhoon Bilis Hit East China Province

Typhoon Bilis, which hit east China's Fujian Province around noon Wednesday, has caused continuous heavy rains and rainstorms in 36 cities and counties across the province.

Local observatory reported that from 8:00 am yesterday to 5:00 am today, rainfall reached 50-200 mm or even over 220 mm in some areas.

In some rivers, the water has exceeded the warning levels by two to three meters. The typhoon has also affected people and farming land in the cities and counties.

In Quanzhou, 35,000 mu (2,300 hectares) crops were destroyed, 310 houses collapsed and 200 enterprises were affected, resulting in hundreds of million yuan in economic losses.

In Zhangzhou, nearly 270,000 people were affected by the rainstorms. Crops and aquatic breeding zones were damaged.

Thanks to the arrangement of the provincial government, local people are fully prepared for the typhoon. Official sources said that so far there have been no deaths or injuries reported. Highways and airports reopened today.
