"Knowledge Project" Launched in Qinghai ProvinceThe first "Knowledge Project" in western China has been lately launched in Golmud, the second large city of Qinghai province.The project is designed for sociological workers with those from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences as the mainstay to take a direct part in the reform and economic construction in China's west. That is by using their talents, especially the intellectual resources to provide an all round consultancy and training service for the local economic construction and social development. Chen Jiagui, Vice-president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences said that there is a poor natural condition in China's western and central regions with a severely unbalanced ecological environment. With infrastructure lagged behind, these areas are running short of intelligent talents, especially those of creative ability and know-how. By carrying out the project, to tout for talents and knowledge, renew the concepts and enhance in general the quality of the broad masses of cadres and people is of utmost importance for the western region. And on the basis of carrying out the investigation and scientific research to realize the innovation of the policy and management system only by doing so can the economy in the west be pushed ahead and sustainable development be attained. Golmud is a city for experiment in the reform of Qinghai province and also one of the nine cities and places chosen for a trial implementation of the policy of reform and opening to the outside world in the ethnic autonomous regions. |
