Foreigners Caught Stealing in Chinese Bank

Police in Shenyang, capital city of Liaoning Province, northeast China, said today they have detained two foreigners on charge of stealing 6,100 U.S. dollars from a local bank.

The two, holding passports of a south Asian country, went into a local bank of the Bank of Communications on August 14, asking to exchange two 50-U.S. dollar bank notes for a 100 dollar bill. While pretending to choose a bill with a specific serial number from the given bank notes, they put some of the money in their pockets. Their activities were recorded by a video camera installed in the bank.

The two were caught in a local hotel five days later and confessed they had stolen altogether 6,100 dollars from the bank.

Further investigation is underway, police said.
