Macao People Prepare to Celebrate National Day

People of various social quarters in Macao will set up a preparatory committee on September 6 to manage various celebration activities for the upcoming 51st anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

The Standing Committee for National Day Celebrations in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) convened Thursday and decided to organize the preparatory committee and celebrations around October 1.

Ma Man Kei, convener of the Standing Committee, said that the National Day this year is of special significance for it is the first one after Macao's reunion with the motherland.

"Over the past year, China has scored new achievements in its reform, opening-up and modernization drive, which Macao people are greatly proud of," he said. "All our compatriots in Macao share the view that Macao's bright prospects rely on the strength of the motherland."

Ma Man Kei noted that during the past eight months since the establishment of the SAR, better public security has brought about benefits to local tourism and other service and consumption sectors are booming.

"I expect we can get more united to carry out the concepts of 'One Country, Two Systems' and 'Macao people governing Macao', and make concerted efforts to build a good future of our Macao SAR," Ma said.
