Vice-Premier Meets Guinea Bissau President Advisor

Friendly relations between China and Guinea Bissau will have new and long-term development in the new century, Chinese Vice-Premier Qian Qichen said Thursday.

China is willing to work with Guinea Bissau in exploring new ways and channels for furthering the relations, Qian said at a meeting with Francisca Vaz Turpin, political and foreign affairs advisor to the president of Guinea Bissau.

He said China is satisfied with the development of relations with Guinea Bissau since the two countries resumed diplomatic relations in 1998.

China encourages its qualified business ventures to invest in Guinea Bissau and participate in this African country's economic development, Qian stressed.

Turpin, who arrived here Wednesday, handed over to Qian a letter from President Kumba Yalla of Guinea Bissau, which is dedicated to Chinese President Jiang Zemin.

She said Guinea Bissau is grateful to China for its support in the past and hopes the support will continue, especially towards the country's reconstruction.
