Beijing to Hold Sixth Major Cities' SummitThe Sixth Major Cities' Summit is scheduled for September 27-30 in Beijing, said a spokesman at Wednesday's press conference organized by the Beijing municipal government.The Sixth Major Cities' Summit, whose theme is "City Development and Cooperation in the 21st Century," will focus on such issues of common concern as development strategies, construction and administration of cities as well as cooperation and exchanges between them, the spokesman said. Zhang Mao, vice-mayor of Beijing and vice-chairman and secretary-general of the summit's organizing committee, said at the press conference that the event will mark another important step in the development of Beijing as an international metropolis. The summit will also help promote friendly relations between the countries participating in the meeting, said Zhang. The Major Cities' Summit started in 1985, and is held every three years. Until now, Tokyo, Istanbul, Montreal, Berlin and Moscow had held the past five sessions. |
