Fifth Changchun Film Festival Opens
The Fifth China Changchun Film Festival opened Wednesday in Changchun, one of the country's film production bases.

Nearly 100 films from China, the United States, Spain, Japan, France, Belgium, Russia, Hong Kong and Taiwan will be shown during the four-day event. Altogether 24 films, domestic and international, will compete for the "Gold Deer" prize.

Cui Yongquan, a member of the organizing committee, said this is the first time films and TV dramas are offered together for trading at the fair.

According to him, hundreds of films and TV dramas 17 domestic film studios and 77 TV drama dealers are available for negotiations in three days. Some 240,000 film fans nationwide will vote for their 10 favorite Chinese films, actors and actresses and film songs through newspapers and the Internet.

The China Changchun Film Festival is held every two years. The first took place in 1992.
