Construction of Key Projects Proceeds Smoothly in Tibet
The Tibet Autonomous Region has intensified infrastructure construction and promoted the building of major projects. By the end of June, 61 of the 68 major projects planned for this year had started construction, with the total investment reaching 657 million yuan, accounting for 89.7 percent and 29.5 percent of the year plan respectively .
Tibet decided to undertake 68 major projects this year with the annual planned investment of nearly 2.23 billion yuan, an increase of 17.19 percent over 1999. These schemes include 39 continued projects and 29 new projects that involve farming, animal husbandry, forestry and water conservancy, transportation, energy, and municipal engineering construction.
Among the six projects of farming, animal husbandry, forestry and water conservancy, two have been completed in the main. Another two are expected to be finished this year. Among the 18 energy projects, the 110-kv electric line stretching from Yamzho Yumco to Gyangze project, that involves static investment of 62.46 million yuan and dynamic investment of 66.34 million yuan, started construction in April and planned to be put into operation in November. Among the 25 transportation projects, the reconstruction project of Yangbajain-Lhasa section of the Qinghai-Tibet Highway with the total investment of 397 million yuan was formally launched in April. Among the 16 municipal engineering works, some have been completed, others are in the winding-up stage.
