Eight teenagers have been killed in a bus crash in northern Austria.

The eight German teenagers, four boys and four girls, were killed when the double decker bus they were travelling in was rammed by an oncoming truck.

Police say the semi-trailer jumped the median strip and plowed into the bus, splitting it in half.

Another truck, transporting stones, then crashed into the damaged bus from behind. Twenty-one others were injured.

The bus was carring 60 children, two drivers and a tour leader.

They were on their way to Hungary for a two week summer holiday.

The accident occurred on the A1 west motorway between Vienna and Salzburg.
