Beijing Uncovers Illicit Sales of Rare AnimalsBeijing Public Security Bureau spokesman confirmed Monday that the police has recently uncovered an illegal selling of rare animals.The police confiscated nine species of wild animals under national protection on August 17, including 11 bear paws, four owls, one giant salamander, 10 lizards, 28 chameleons, eight boas and nine nutrias. They were all stored in a refrigerator. Police also discovered eight live giant salamanders in a water box. Wang Yulai and Xia Fajie, two suspects from east China's Anhui Province, said all the animals were going to be sold to restaurants. A spokesman said this is the largest illegal selling of rare animals to date. The case is under further investigation. |
