HK Sees 0.9 Percent in Population Growth Rate

The population of Hong Kong reached 6,782,100, in the mid-2000, according to the provisional figure released by the Census and Statistics Department of Hong Kong Tuesday.

There was an increase of 61,400 persons as compared with the mid-1999 population, representing a growth rate of 0.9 percent.

There were 51,400 births and 33,800 deaths in Hong Kong in the past one year. The natural increase thus amounted to 17,600, accounting for 29 percent of the population growth.

During the same period, the net movement showed a net inflow of some 43,800 persons, constituting 71 percent of the population growth.

Of the 6,782,100 persons within the mid-2000 Hong Kong population, 6,593,400 were usual residents and 188,700 were mobile residents.
