Chirac Sends Condolences to Putin on Death of Submarine Crew

French President Jacques Chirac sent a message of condolences on Monday to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the death of the 118 crew of the submarine Kursk.

"The death of these marines raises a feeling of great sadness in France," said Chirac in the message published by the Elysee presidential palace.

He said that France pays homage to the marines of the Kursk submarine and expresses its solidarity with Russia at this tragic moment.

Vice-Admiral Mikhail Motsak, the Chief of General Staff of the Russian North Fleet, announced on Monday that all the 118 members of the crew of Kursk are dead.
