China Sets Rules for Judicial Appraisal

China's Ministry of Justice is determined to bring order to the long-time jumbled judicial appraisal field.

The ministry held a conference on the issue last Saturday and pledged to set up, step by step, a new system of judicial identification compatible to China's judicial reform, Beijing-based "Legal Daily" reported.

Judicial evidence is one of the seven legal proofs in China.

According to Liu Yang, vice minister of justice, a number of provincial legislatures have or will issue local regulations on the matter.

The ministry recently issued two rules, the Methods on the Administration of Registration of Judicial Identification Institution and the Methods on the Administration of Judicial Appraiser, which take effect on October 1.

By 2002, one third of China's provinces, municipalities and ethnic autonomous regions will issue their local rules on judicial appraisal.

China will establish systems on the qualification of judicial appraisers, administration of licenses for the appraisers, and on job training.
