About 4,800 scientists and scholars from across China will meet from September 17-20 in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province for an annual science academic meeting.

According to Zhang Yutai, vice-chairman of China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), the scientists are also expected to discuss in details specific issues concerning China's ambitious strategy to develop its western regions.

The meeting is designed to enhance academic exchanges between scientific workers and provide government decision-makers with advice on key issues concerning development in western China.

Among the scientists and scholars will be elite Chinese and overseas scientists, including 67 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering and leading scientists in charge of 112 national scientific societies under CAST.
