Chinese IT Industry to Retain Double Digit Growth

China's information technology industry is to retain an annual growth rate of above 20 percent in the next five years, according Vice Minister of Information Industry Lu Xinkui.

Lu told the 16th World Computer Congress opened here today that the output of the IT industry will double in the next five years to account for 5 percent of the nation's GDP.

He said the Chinese government places great importance on the development of the IT industry as a pillar industry of the economy.

Lu noted that in the next five years, China will focus on building infrastructures of a national information network, accelerating the development of information technology and IT industry and pushing forward the application of information technology in all sectors of the economy.

He said as the world's biggest developing country, China has retained fast economic growth over the past two decades. In order to secure a sustainable, healthy and rapid development of the country's IT industry, China has to further strengthen international exchanges and dialogues so as to draw in more advanced technology, management expertise and foreign funds.
