Seminar on China's WTO Entry to Be Held in HK

A large-scale seminar will be staged in Hong Kong the next month to help Chinese enterprises gear up for China's impending entry into the World Trade Organization.

The seminar, scheduled for September 27 and 28, is to explore challenges and opportunities Chinese enterprises are facing after China enters WTO entry, Zuo Danhong, chairman of the International Association of Industry and Commerce, told a press briefing on Monday.

"The seminar, which will draw delegates from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and overseas, is also aimed at promoting Hong Kong's international standing," said Zuo.

Officials from the central government, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, diplomats from foreign consulates in Hong Kong, representatives from the press, and people from the business communities will be invited to the seminar, according to Zuo.

Topics to be discussed at the seminar include the far-reaching impacts China's WTO entry will bring about on China's economic development, and the immense business opportunities existing in China's vast western areas.

The renown Chinese American Social activist Anna Chan Chennault will attend the seminar as a key-note speaker and present a newly- published complete collection of her works to the public.

The International Association of Industry and Commerce (IAIC), organizer of the seminar, was formed in June 1999 with the aim of bridging up communications between local and overseas industrial and business communities.
