Premier Zhu Invites NZ to Participate in Development of Western Areas
Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji told visiting New Zealand Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Philip Goff Monday that China hopes NZ would actively participate in the development of the country's western region.
Zhu said NZ boosts advantages in the areas of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and environmental protection, and therefore can play an active role in the development of China's western parts.
Chinese President Jiang Zemin visited NZ last year as guest of NZ Governor-General Michael Hardie Boys. The two heads of state agreed to build a 21st-century-oriented cooperative relations that will grow smoothly and healthy for a long period.
Jiang's successful visit to NZ marked a new stage in China-NZ relations, and China is satisfied with the relations, Zhu told Goff, who arrived Sunday for a five-day official visit.
Goff said NZ Governor-General Boys is looking forward to visiting China. He said NZ is also looking forward to cooperating with China on a number of bilateral issues and international affairs, and bringing bilateral relations to a higher level.
