Approved by the State Council, Hunchun Export-processing District in northeast China's Jilin Province has been set up. As the first of its kind among the 14 open border cities, it has started initial development and construction.
Located in the Hunchun Border Economic Cooperative Zone, the said district covers an area of 2.44 sq. km. The initial stage, which covers 0.6 sq. km, will mainly develop labor- and resource- intensive processing industries, with emphasis on the development of light industry, food, textile, clothing, wood products, medical preparations, new construction materials, as well as intensive processing of native, agricultural and sideline products. Projects of processing with supplied material, designs and samples are also included in the development plan.
Hunchun City is located at the juncture of China, Russia and DPRK, and it has many ports linking up with those of Russia and DPRK.
