Voters Urged to Cast Ballots on Election Day

The Secretary for Home Affairs W K Lam Sunday appealed to the 3 million registered voters to exercise their rights and obligations by voting for their representatives in the Legislative Council Elections.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2000 Legislative Council Elections Carnival held at Carpenter Road Park, Lam urged all the eligible voters to cast their votes during the forthcoming Legislative Council Elections on September 10.

"As the work of the Legislative Council is closely related to the well-being of the people of Hong Kong, we should all participate in the voting to choose people who can represent us in the Legislative Council," Lam said.

During the ceremony, Lam and the other officiating guests took part in a mock voting exercise to show how very simple and easy are the voting procedures. "It will only take you a few minutes to cast your vote," he said.

Apart from game stalls, including those simulating the voting procedures, and exhibition, the carnival also featured performances by popular singers, such as Amanda Lee, William So and Rain Li.

The carnival was jointly organized by the District Offices of Kowloon City, Sham Shui Po and Yau Tsim Mong.
