Egyptian FM, U.S. Envoy Discuss Palestinian-Israeli TalksEgyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa conferred with visiting U.S. Middle East envoy Dennis Ross on the Mideast peace process Saturday in the Mediterranean port city of Alexandria.The two officials discussed prospects of giving a boost to the negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis, and tried to seek means of overcoming a number of impediments in the peace process, a statement issued by Egypt's Foreign Ministry said. They looked for ways of building on the Palestinian-Israeli summit held last month at Camp David of the United States in a bid to reach a final peace agreement between the two sides, the statement said. They asserted the importance of seeking to push the two sides towards an acceptable stance with a view to making real progress in the peace talks. Ross arrived in the region on Thursday to assess the possibility of holding a new Palestinian-Israeli summit similar to the one in Camp David, which ended without an agreement on July 25, largely due to disputes over the fate of Jerusalem. The talks came at the end of a week that has seen extensive diplomatic efforts by Egypt to help the Palestinians and Israelis find solutions to thorny issues, particularly Jerusalem. |
