Nine Injured in Indo-Pakistani Border FiringIndian and Pakistani troops exchanged artillery fire Saturday along their disputed Kashmir border, leaving 24 homes damaged and nine civilians injured in the Indian zone of the divided state, police said."The exchanges have been going on since last night after Pakistani forces opened fire in the border sectors of Uri, Karna and Tanghdar," north of the state summer capital Srinagar, a police spokesman said. "In Karna, 20 houses were damaged and three people injured," he said. "In the border village of Nambla in the Uri region, three others were injured, of whom one is in critical condition. "Four houses were damaged in Nambla," he said. The official said three more people were injured in the firing at Tanghdar. The dispute over the northern state, divided between Pakistan and India, has caused two wars since their independence from Britain in 1947. Both countries routinely engage in artillery duels along the Kashmir border and blame each other for starting the firing. |
